Stoke Hill Mine

Stoke Hill Mine

The Stoke Hill Mine was re-opened in 1982 after laying dormant for 40 years.

On the outskirts of Bath, 30 metres under the beautiful Bath countryside, Bath Stone Company's Stoke Hill Mine lies within a rich oolitic limestone bed producing the award winning Stoke Ground Bath Stone.

The quality and consistency of the stone produced has earned Stoke Ground the reputation of the premier Bath Stone with the majority of market share.

It is not only the rich reserve of stone that is attributable to Stoke Ground's success, but state of the art equipment used by the company, which enables 6,000 cubic metres of consistent and uniform product to be won anually.

Two Beds are produced: Top and Base Bed. Uniform size and defect free, which maximises yield and minimises waste. Cost effective. Consistent colour. Domestic and export market. Reserves ensure availability for generations to come.

Health & Safety

The Bath Stone Group continues to invest in its’ personnel and underground workers to ensure the safest possible working environment.

All personnel are trained to the highest standards of Health and Safety and our in-house Rescue Team is trained to the Escape & Rescue from Mines Regulations 1995.

This service is offered, and has been used by other underground operations needing our support.
