Apex City of Bath Hotel, Bath

Stoke Ground Base Bed was used in the redevelopment of a 1970s city centre office site into a 177 bedroom four star hotel.

Kingsmead House, reckoned to be one of the city’s ugliest buildings, was demolished to make way for the Apex City of Bath Hotel. Apex Hotels is one of the UK’s leading independent owners and operators of four star contemporary hotels.

Apex secured this rare site and spent £35 million in order to have presence in this popular UNESCO World Heritage Site, with the world famous Roman Baths situated just 200 metres away.

More than 1,000 tonnes of Stoke Ground Base Bed Stone sourced from Stoke Mill Mine, was used in the hotel’s construction. Bath Stone columns, pilasters, cill course, prominent window jambs, cornice and a curved on plan frontage give the hotel a grand luxurious presence.
